Otrar Archaeological Site
The ruins of Otrar, a major Silk Road city that never recovered from the Mongol siege of 1219. Today it is an excavation site on the steppe — traces of walls and mounds. It is considered the birthplace of al-Farabi.

Open steppe: no shade, no shops. Bring water and a hat. The road is poor and hard on a low car.
